Honoured with Prize of the House
Ulrich Kern was chosen public's darling of the season 2012/13 and is awarded with the special prize of the „Musik- und Theaterverein“ for his successful work in 2013. Lately he conducted Mozart's „Figaro's Hochzeit“, Tschaikowsky's „Eugen Onegin“, Verdi's „La Traviata“, Zemlinsky's „Kleider machen Leute“ and the much discussed first night of „Der Tod eines Bankers“.
Schumann Symphony No. 2 „with fascinating charisma”
„...Conclusing part of the programme was Symphony Nr. 2 by Robert Schumann. Ulrich Kern conducted the work by heart, in a competent, superior way and with fascinating charisma.
His musicians he not only could get going and motivate for a brilliant performance, he also could enthrall the audience, so that already after the first movement there were spontaneous shouts of „Bravo“. To surpass this first passionate movement – at least keep up the tension – seemed to be a nearly unsolvable problem. But those musicians with this more and more flourishing conductor coped with it admirably. In the third heart-rending slow movement with that wonderful oboe-solo, the passionate vivacity subsided without any loss of the interpretation's intensity. Allegro molto vivace the whole matter went into the final and on to an enthusiastic applause.“
Sächsische Zeitung, Jens Daniel Schubert, 19h October 2013
First Night of „Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor“
Conducted by Ulrich Kern the „Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie“ played fully in the mood. A well-prepared chorus and an appropriate cast of soloists made the evening a hearing delight“.
(Sächsische Zeitung, 7th October 2013)
Season 2012 / 2013
During the season 2012/13 Ulrich Kern will conduct the following operas at the Theater Görlitz: „La Traviata“ by Verdi, „Eugen Onegin“ by Tschaikowsky and „Kleider machen Leute“ by Alexander von Zemlinsky, moreover a symphony concert with works of Benjamin Britten and Thomas Adès..
At the Semperoper Dresden he will lead the rehearsals of „Gisela!“, the latest opera by Hans Werner Henze.
With Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken he is planning to realize a CD-production with trombonist ARD-award winner Fabrice Millischer at the Saarländischer Rundfunk in June 2013.
The Südwestrundfunk (SWR) will broadcast a concert of Mahler's 9th Symphony with the Ensemble Transcendent under the direction of Ulrich Kern.

„This performance at Görlitz is really a matter of discovery (.....) It's a great delight to witness how the members of the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie (New Lausitz Philharmonic)
conducted by Ulrich Kern make the opera sound brilliant.“
Sächsische Zeitung, 26th November 2012
„As a whole the musical performance of this opera at Görlitz is wonderfully done. Ulrich Kern conducting leads the orchestra, the choir and the soloists reliably through the high-quality composition. He finds a fine extent in between forcing drama and sumptuous lyric.“
Season 2011 / 2012
